Barking Tales

Who are those furry creatures that we chose to be our companions since aprox. 30,000 years ago? Dogs have been part of many aspects of our lives for such a long time, and still there are so many without a place to call home. Barking Tales is a personal project that intends to raise awareness of our moral commitment with the species that once we decided to domesticate to be with us.

Animals have always been close to my heart. As a pet owner and volunteer at the animal shelter at the biggest no-kill city in the United States (Austin yay!!) for almost two years, I have accumulated a series of personal stories and experiences that I visually communicate here.

Dogs go out for a picnic.

This is a story that involves dogs eating chicken from the table. Back in April, one of my fellow volunteers had a very original idea to promote adoptions. He wanted to portray the dogs of Lockhart animal shelter having a picnic, given that Lockhart is very famous for its BBQ here in Texas. His idea was not only original but also very fun. We set up a table with tablecloth, flowers and a full menu with bread, potato salad and chicken (given some logistic inconveniences, we had to change the BBQ for chicken, but that did not seem to be a problem for our guests!). The dogs were having a lot of fun and for the one who felt trapped in the studio, there was always the great outdoors. The result?? Happy doggies that promoted themselves while having fun. Look at the photos and judge by yourselves!
